Part of the political scam and disgraceful scientific con-trick being perpetrated is that the scientists were only asked to monitor the field itself, totally ignoring the potentially devastating effects of other components of GM "farming" on the wider environment and over a longer time-scale.

For instance, the trial field is soon to be doused with highly neurotoxic glufosinate ammonium, which will kill everything it touches. Old-fashioned selective weed killers are out of the window - Glufosinate nukes 'em all unless they happen to have Aventis' special little genetic modification.  And they still think you will queue up to fry your chips in the stuff !!

But wait a minute -  this field is the source of the Suddie Burn which runs for several miles through agricultural land and the village of Avoch before entering the sea in a Special Area of Conservation where dolphins and many fish species come to breed. There is also an important commercial fish farm in the bay. The Law of Scotland gives riparian owners the right to unpolluted water...does Farmer Grant have a Consent to Discharge these neurotoxins and their metabolites into a water-course and pollute the land and sea downstream? No.

Can we expect any person employed as a scientist to jeopardise their prospects of employment by blowing the whistle on this pseudo-scientific and extremely risky farce? No. They "know" there are risks, but the risk of extended unemployment is greater still. Nothing will happen until is has already happened, by which time it is too late.

They are all playing for time, attempting another case of "public sedation" like they achieved with BSE.

This is the exact opposite of sustainable development, it offers no benefit whatsoever to any Third World nation, and only the biotech agrochemical companies - the farmers "drug pushers" -  make the money. The farmers, once hooked, are doomed like any other junkie on a street corner. The Canadians have wised up - now it's our turn.
