G.M. COMING TO NAIRN & INVERNESS
We are APPALLED to announce two more proposed releases of genetically modified organisms into our environment.

Public Meetings are scheduled at which the issues will be once again made clear. Details here

One farmer, desperate for money, is being tempted by biotech companies to sell his GM Free status ( and that of their neighbours, and the whole region) for a small bag of silver. This is not his right.

We regard this as a violation of our right to live in an environment free of these untested organisms, a violation of our right NOT to take part in someone else's experiments, and a violation of our rights to grow and consume our own organic and conventional produce.

Funded by the multi-million pound sale of some of his farmland near Inverness to Tesco for their new store,  landowner Danny MacIntosh is trying to hawk his recently acquired Park Farm, Nairn, to Aventis Crop Science (itself for sale, by the way) for £1200 per hectare, AND, further west, another of his other "stewardships" -   Seafield Farm- is also being proposed for GM contamination by Aventis, with total disregard for the rights of his neighbours.

In a world where increasing numbers of countries are banning the import of GM foods even for animal feed, in a world where GM produce is traded at a discount compared with "conventionally" grown crops, in a country where supermarkets are clearing their shelves of products containing GM material, in a country where food producer after food produce, retailer after retailer is going "GM Free", in a country which cannot grow even one third of the organic food it consumes, and in the country where Dr Arpad Pusztai the famously-fired scientist  first discovered that GM foods might actually be harmful,   it beggars belief that one person should be allowed to destroy the status of an entire agricultural region by one greedy, reckless and ill-informed act of stupidity.

It is up to us to stop it happening.
